Despite suffering a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down, Masahiko Togashi - Japan's legendary drummer and percussionist who continued performing by developing his own unique playing style - joins forces with Masahiko Satoh, one of Japan's foremost pianists who has remained at the forefront of the scene since his 1969 debut Palladium, and bassist Keiki Midorikawa, a frequent collaborator of both musicians. Together they form the trio project Cosmic Pulsation Unity, whose album was released in 1975. Side A, titled “Sekiran” (Cumulonimbus), is a nearly 21-minute session in which fragmentary melodies born from free improvisation build up in layered formations, much like towering storm clouds. In sharp contrast, Side B's “A-Un”unfolds within an atmosphere of profound stillness, sustained by extended passages of pianissimo, until a dramatic final swell arrives. The development is breathtakingly beautiful.
